Basant also moved an application requesting the court that he be shifted from Burail jail to Sonipat jail as his aging parents will find it difficult to visit him in Chandigarh.

Basant made a statement to the effect that “he is only 22 years and has aging parents to look after.” He added that he has not committed any crime and that he has been falsely implicated. Sarita appealed for leniency saying,“I am seven-months pregnant and I am innocent.”

Basant also moved an application requesting the court that he be shifted from Burail jail to Sonipat jail as his aging parents will find it difficult to visit him in Chandigarh. He added that at present another case is pending against him in the district court of Sonipat and it would be convenient for both the authority and him if he is shifted to Sonipat jail.

Basant’s defence lawyers,Vinay Jhingan and Manish Rampal said they would appeal to the higher court.

Talking to the Newsline,Parminder, son of Sucha Singh, said,“I would have preferred if the accused was awarded death sentence but I am happy with the judgment. Now I am waiting for a response from concerned authorities on my request to provide me with a job in the Chandigarh Police.”
