Three people were killed and several others injured in a major crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 10 near the I-15 interchange in Ontario, California, on October 21. The driver of a semi-truck believed to have caused the collision, identified as 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh of Yuba City, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Citing anonymous immigration officials, Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported that Singh is an Indian national who entered the US illegally in March 2022 and was later released under existing federal policies. ICE has reportedly lodged a request with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to take custody of Singh.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred around 1.10 pm when Singh’s red tractor-trailer, travelling at high speed, failed to brake and rammed into slow-moving traffic on the westbound lanes. The impact set off a chain reaction involving eight vehicles — four semi-trucks, two pickup trucks, and two passenger cars.
Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion-like sound as several vehicles caught fire and debris scattered across the freeway. A hazardous materials alert was issued due to the involvement of commercial trucks.
Dashcam footage, verified by investigators and widely circulated on social media, shows Singh’s truck approaching at high speed without braking or swerving before slamming into vehicles ahead.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, though their identities have not been released pending notification of families. Four others sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical, including a roadside mechanic assisting with a tire change. Singh, who was also injured, was taken into custody and booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

ICE has reportedly lodged a detainer request with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to take custody of Singh if he is released from local charges.
Officials described the collision as “entirely preventable,” urging motorists to remain alert and sober. Toxicology reports and vehicle data are being reviewed to determine the cause of the crash, and formal charges are expected soon.
The case has reignited debate over border enforcement and commercial driver licensing processes for non-citizens. Singh remains in custody as the investigation continues.
