Sikh’s for Justice,a human rights advocacy group, has demanded an inquiry into the circumstances leading to pre-mature release of Kishori Lal,who had been sentenced to life imprisonment in three murder cases that he committed in 1984.
Lal,who worked as a butcher in Delhi, was initially accused of murdering seven members of the Sikh community with a chopper knife on November 1,1984. Later he was acquitted in four cases. He was awarded death penalty in all the three cases by the Delhi High Court. His death sentence was converted to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court.
Speaking at a press conference,Navkiran Singh,Legal Advisor for the group said,We have written to the Lt Governor’s of Delhi and the Director General of Prison’s for holding a detailed inquiry into pre-mature release and as to how a prisoner like Lal could hood wink the system and procure a release order.
He claimed that the sentence review board(SRB) may or may not have been provided with full facts and background of the case while recommending the release of Lal and the Lt Governor’s Office may also been misled to pass the release order.
