On the last day of its 18-day budget session, the Himachal Pradesh Government Friday passed three amended bills hiking the salaries and allowances of the chief minister, other ministers, MLAs, Speaker and Deputy Speaker by almost 24 per cent. This will involve an additional annual expenditure of approximately Rs 25 crore from the state exchequer.

The Chief Minister, who receives a salary of Rs 95,000 per month, is now proposed to receive Rs 1.15L. A cabinet minister, who is entitled to draw a salary of Rs 80,000, is proposed to receive Rs 95,000 per month.

Similarly, a minister of state and deputy minister, who are getting monthly salaries of Rs 78,000 and Rs 75,000, respectively, will see it increase to Rs 93,000 and Rs 80,000, correspondingly. The salary of an elected MLA is proposed to increase from Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000.

According to sources, the increase in the salaries and allowances of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will cause an additional annual expenditure of Rs 35 lakh on the state exchequer, while that of the ministers will cause an additional annual burden of Rs 2 crore. The proposed salary hike for MLAs will cost the state exchequer Rs 20 crore to Rs 22 crore annually.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presented the three amended bills including the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (Allowances and Pension of Members) Amendment Bill, 2025; Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker’s Salaries (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Himachal Pradesh) Amendment Bill, 2025.
