UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria Tuesday inaugurated the new Grewal Eye Institute (GEI) facility in Medicity, Chandigarh. The purpose-built hospital brings diagnostics, modular operating theatres and multiple ophthalmic specialities into a single campus aimed at improving patient access and reducing treatment time.
The new centre houses the ZEISS refractive suite, including SMILE Pro for minimally invasive laser vision correction and Presbyond for presbyopia management, along with EMR-enabled patient workflows and on-site optical and pharmacy services. The hospital has been designed with barrier-free access, wide corridors, HEPA-filtered laminar-flow operating theatres and dedicated on-site parking.
Speaking at the inauguration, GEI founder Dr S P S Grewal said the institute has focused on “engineering clinical workflows and surgical environments that minimise waiting and support faster recovery”. Medical director Dr Sartaj Grewal said the facility has been planned to ensure “more time with doctors and less time navigating multiple service points”.
The centre will offer services in cataract, cornea and ocular surface disease, glaucoma, retina and vitreous, paediatric ophthalmology, squint, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplasty, uvea and emergency eye care. The institute said it will also continue community outreach and patient awareness programmes alongside clinical services.
The new hospital adds to GEI’s existing presence in the region, where it has operated for over two decades.
