The inquiry marked by the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital,Sector 16 (GMSH-16),to investigate the alleged medical negligence case wherein the family of a 21-year-old woman had accused a doctor of either damaging or removing her fallopian tubes during an appendectomy operation, has now got stuck in red tape.
On October 2,Newsline had first reported the case after the womans father accused the hospital authorities of negligence. Following the Newsline report,GMSH-16 Medical Superintendent Dr Rajiv Vadera, who at that time was also Director Health Services (DHS),had marked an inquiry into the case on October 3. He handed over the inquiry to the head of the surgery department,Dr K S Bal. The report was to be submitted within 10 days, that is by October 13.
Despite the October 13 deadline expiring on Sunday, the inquiry report has not been received by the authorities.
Asked about the status of the inquiry report,Dr Rajiv Vadera said,I have not received any report yet and have no details about its progress. I marked the inquiry as a DHS. Now the report will directly come to new DHS,who is Dr S K Bhalla.
Dr S K Bhalla replaced Dr Vadera as DHS on October 4. Vadera, however, continues to hold the charge of Medical Superintendent at GMSH-16.
When contacted,Dr Bhalla first said he was was not aware of any such inquiry being marked to Dr Bal. Later,Dr Bhalla said,Dr Bal received the charge to get the inquiry only three days back. As there is a long procedure, where a letter has to be dispatched from directors office to the department concerned,it does take some time.
Bhalla added that the inquiry is still in its preliminary stage and Dr K S Bal will take some more time,at least a week more,to file the report.
The patients family, however, said that they were not sure whether a fair inquiry would be conducted. We want doctors from other hospitals to conduct the inquiry and not the doctors from GMSH-16, said the patients father.
