The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has recorded a historic revenue of Rs 1,911.68 crore from the auction of various commercial and residential sites held ahead of Diwali. While the total reserve price of all properties was around Rs 8,600 crore, only 72 out of 144 sites found buyers during the e-auction. Most of the successful sales came from Aerocity and Sector-78 while many other sites failed to attract investors this time.
According to official data, the e-auction conducted in September covered sites from Aerocity, IT City, Ecocity, and sectors 66 to 82. The commercial sites in Aerocity and Sector-78 received the highest bids, driving GMADA’s record-breaking income.
For the first time, GMADA offered a cluster of 16 showroom sites in Block-C of Aerocity, with a reserve price of around Rs 65 crore. Out of these, 14 sites were sold, generating massive returns for the authority. One site in Aerocity’s Block-C, Pocket No. 2, fetched an exceptional bid of about Rs 80 crore, becoming one of the highest-priced commercial plots in recent years.
Showroom sites in Sector 78 also saw enthusiastic investor participation, selling between Rs 7.1 crore and Rs 10.4 crore each against a base price of Rs 6.5 crore.
In the residential category, response remained modest, with only eight plots sold — two each in Sector 67, Sector 68, Ecocity 2, and Sector-82 Alpha (IT City).
Officials described the auction as a “strong indicator of market confidence in Aerocity and Sector 78”, though several prime locations still await suitable buyers.
