An aide of gangster Lucky Patial was injured in a police encounter in a village in Kharar of Punjab’s Mohali district Monday morning. The accused, identified as Ranbir Singh Rana, sustained a bullet injury in his leg during the exchange of fire with a team of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) in Kharar on Bhukhdi Road.
According to the Mohali police, Rana recently opened fire outside the house of the owner of Rajenta Hotel in Sector 38 in Chandigarh. He is also accused of firing at Punjabi singer Bunty Bains. Two of his associates have already been arrested in connection with these incidents, while Rana has been on the run.

The accused, a resident of Gunomajra village, was riding a motorcycle towards his village when he was intercepted by the police.
“The team asked him to surrender, but he opened fire on the police. In retaliatory action, he was shot in the leg,” said SSP Hans.
Rana was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Kharar, and referred to Mohali for further treatment.
