With the arrest of six people,the Patiala police claimed to have busted a gang of burglars who used to loot people at weddings while posing as cops.
Patiala SP-D Gurdeep Singh Pannu said the accused had looted the house of one Sohan Lal,of Mohalla Guru Harsahai Nagar in Chaura village on the outskirts of the town,when a wedding was taking place on the intervening night of November 8 and 9.
The looters had decamped with 10 tolas of gold ornaments,16 tolas of silver ornaments and 13 tolas of silver utensils along with Rs 40,000,which has since been recovered from the possession of the accused.
The arrested accused include Soma,son of Jallo and Deepak son of Doona Ram,both residents of Safabadi Gate,Deha Basti,Patiala,Sinder Pal alias Keedu,son of Shankar of Housing Board Colony,Ambala,Raju son of Mehndi Ram of Sanauri Adda,Patiala,Sewak alias Totri son of Pishori,resident of Safabadi Gate Patiala and Pawan Kumar alias Bhandu son of Darshan of Safabadi gate Patiala.
The said six accused were arrested by a CIA team at a police check post near Sanauri Adda in the town,but one of accused Nazara son of Jhandi of Safabadi gate escaped from the scene.
A country-made .315-bore pistol along with live cartridges,two small kirpans,two iron rods,and a toy pistol was also recovered from their possession.
A case under Section 25 Arms Act and under Sections 399/401/402 IPC registered against them in Police Station,Sadar,Patiala,and further investigations are on in the case.
