The anti-drug Special Task Force (STF) of Punjab Police has booked dismissed Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Raj Jeet Singh on charges of extortion.

A case has been registered under Section 384 (extortion) of the IPC and other relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Prevention of Corruption Act at STF police station in Mohali.

A senior officer of the STF confirmed to The Indian Express that a fresh case has been registered against Raj Jeet Singh and raids are on to nab the fugitive former police officer.

The Mohali district court had issued an arrest warrant against Raj Jeet Singh for May 31. On May 18 the STF had told the court that raids were on in different states, including Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, to nab Raj Jeet Singh.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had on April 17 dismissed Raj Jeet Singh after his name cropped up in a drug peddling case.

Raj Jeet Singh has been on the run since his dismissal on April 17. The Vigilance Bureau had also booked Raj Jeet Singh in a disproportionate assets case, a probe for which is underway.

Raj Jeet Singh is accused of amassing wealth (properties worth crores) disproportionate to his known sources of income.
