Five, including 2 children, killed in Kullu landslide; 3 injured

A major landslide struck Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Monday night, claiming five lives and resulting in the collapse of two houses, causing widespread devastation in Ghatu panchayat.

Authorities have confirmed that five bodies, including those of two children, have been recovered, while three injured people have been rushed to the hospital.
As many as eight people, including two children, were trapped when the landslide hit the village of Shamarni in the panchayat.

According to Manmohan Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Nirmand, rescue operations are underway, with teams working through the night to trace survivors and retrieve the missing individuals.

“Our teams are fully engaged in the search and rescue operations. We are using all available resources to ensure that those trapped are brought out safely,” he said.

The deceased has been identified as Bresti Devi, 50, Chuni Lal, 32, his wife Anju Devi, 25, their son Bhupesh, 5, and another child, Jagriti, 8. The injured include Shiv Ram, 52, Dharm Dass, 48, and Kala Devi, 45, all residents of Shamarni village.

Both affected houses were completely destroyed along with household belongings, resulting in a total loss for the families.

The district administration has assured that immediate relief measures are being arranged, including shelter, medical assistance, and food supplies.

The Himachal Pradesh government is closely monitoring the situation, and additional aid and resources are expected to be deployed in the coming days.
