Farmers from villages across the district gathered at the Indira Park in Ambala Cantt on Tuesday and raised slogans against the management of HDFC Bank for issuing them notices for the recovery of loans standing against their names.
A few farmers said they had repaid their loans but the bank had still issued notices to them. One of the farmers Surjit Singh, from Ramgarh Majra village, said that he had only completed the formalities for Rs 24 lakh but no loan was issued to him.
He too had received a notice by the bank to repay Rs 24 lakh.
President of Kisan Union Gurnam Singh said the scam was unearthed in January and 114 farmers were served notices of recovery.
An FIR was registered against bank employee Darshan Lal Tyagi and the cases of only 53 farmers were cleared.
He warned the bank that if all the cases were not settled, the union would launch an agitation against the bank.
Meanwhile,an official at the HDFC Bank said of the 53 accepted claims,40 had been resolved.
He said the remaining claims were being examined.
