The engineering wing of the administration has installed four big special signboards at 11-12-14-15 roundabout on a pilot basis.

The signboards show important landmarks in these sectors like PEC University of Technology, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Panjab University and Chandigarh College of Architecture.

Inspired by the concept from abroad, such signboards with important landmarks of the sectors at a distance of 200 feet away from every intersection would soon be installed throughout the city.

Chief engineer Mukesh Anand said the old signboards were not up to the mark. “The old signboards in the city were very small and not up to the mark. The adviser and the finance secretary wanted prominent signages to be installed at the right point. We have got them installed 200 feet from the intersection to help people understand where to go before taking a turn,” he said.

The chief engineer added that the signboard installed at the Panjab University and PGI intersection has evoked a good response from the people.

“This concept exists in countries abroad and would be replicated at all other roundabouts and intersections,” Anand said.

The four signboards have been installed at a cost Rs 10 lakh.
