The Chandigarh Territorial Youth Congress marked Womens Day and took a pledge to prevent atrocities against women. President of CTYC,Maninder Singh,said that women have a major role in the progress of the country. Vice President,CTYC,Harmail Kesri stated that boys who are unmarried should pledge that they will not accept dowry when marrying. Munish Bansal,son of Union Minister Pawan Bansal,honoured the female members of the youth wing.
BJP unit organises free health camp
The Mahila Morcha of Bharatiya Janata Party marked Womens Day by organizing a free health check up camp and cultural programme in Sector 46. A sticker to save the girl child was released. President of the city unit of the party,Sanjay Tandon,was the chief guest. The programme started with the lighting of the lamp followed by Ganesh Vandana. A discussion on women empowerment was also held. Around 150 women were examined at the health camp.
Jan Shikshan Sansthan spreads awareness
About 250 women from areas of Dadumajra,Maloya,Dhanas and Palsora participated in the International Women s Day celebrations organized by the Jan Shikshan Sansthan at Prajapati Bhawan in Sector 38-A. The women were apprised about the day by Doctor Manmeet Kaur,Associate Professor from PGIMER. R K Sharma,chairman of the Sansthan,highlighted the importance of the social,economic and the political aspects for women. S K Shorie,Programme Officer,Nirmal Singh,President of the Prajapati Bhawan and Ajam from the Cafe Coffee Day addressed the women on various issues related to them.
Dev Samaj College holds signature campaign
On International Women’s Day,NSS volunteers of Dev Samaj College of Education carried a signature campaign drive to stop violence and crime against the women. Around 250 women of the college shared their views on equal rights and social justice for women. On the occasion,Dr. Jyoti Khanna,principal of the college inspired the students to raise voice against injustice.
Govt Home Science College holds workshop
The International Women’s Day was celebrated by the Department of Human Development and Family Relations of Government Home Science College,Sector 10. A workshop cum discussion was conducted to generate awareness about gender issues and values with specific reference to the sub-urban and rural backdrop. The panel included the principal of Government Home Science College,Madhu Nanda,head of the Department of Human Development Family Relations,Sudha Katyal,and others. The audience comprised of M.Sc students who shared their issues. Issues of gender socialisation and eve-teasing lead to an enriching debate.
PU discusses sensitisation programmes
With an objective to sensitize the youth on violence against women,the Department of Life Long Learning and Extension,Panjab University (PU) in collaboration with YWCA,Sector 11,celebrated the International Womens Day. While speaking on the occasion,Renu Gandhi,Associate Professor,Department of Life Long Learning and Extension,PU emphasised on the need for gender sensitization among the youth. She also said that there was a need to introduce Life skill education programmes at adolescent level so that youngsters understand the gender issues and give respect to both the sexes. The need to introduce a course on gender issues at senior secondary level was also discussed.
