Dinesh Solanki named in CBI chargesheet

The BJP MP is currently in judicial custody in Sabarmati Central Jail.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday filed a chargesheet against Junagadh MP Dinesh Solanki alias Dinu Bogha for conspiracy and murder of RTI activist Amit Jethava.

The BJP MP is currently in judicial custody in Sabarmati Central Jail. He was arrested by the CBI officials in New Delhi on November 6 and brought here two days later.

The CBI officials remained tight-lipped about Solanki’s exact role in the case. However, sources said that Solanki has been charged under sections 302 and 120 (B) of IPC.

The charges against Solanki come in sharp contradiction with the probe by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) which gave clean chit to him while chargesheeting six persons. The DCB officials had said that it couldn’t get evidence against Solanki in the murder case.

Jethava was shot by two bike borne assailants right opposite the Gujarat High Court on July 28,2010. Jethava had filed several RTI applications seeking details on the illegal mining in Junagadh, which allegedly involved Solanki. The CBI also got hold of audio tapes that had recorded conversations of Solanki, which strengthened the case against him.

After DCB filed the chargesheet,Jethava’s father Bhikhabhai had approached the HC demanding a CBI probe while claiming that Solanki was involved in his son’s murder.

Earlier, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against six persons including Shiva Solanki, nephew of Dinu Solanki,Shailesh Pandya,Shiva Pachan and a police constable Bahadursinh Vadher among others. The CBI had claimed that Vadher was the main accused and Dinu Solanki was in touch with him. The probing agency had also claimed that since Jethava, through his RTI applications, was exposing Solanki’s alleged illegal mining activities,it was the motive of the murder.

“The CBI didn’t allow us to go through the chargesheet. We demanded from the court to provide us a copy of it. The court kept the chargesheet for verification and scheduled the case for next hearing on January 4,” said senior advocate Mitesh Amin, who represents Solanki in the case.
