The tightening of norms and shrinking opportunities, according to reports, has led to a decline in number of students making their way to Australia and the US. On the other hand, the number of Indian students migrating to Canada has nearly doubled. After a steep decline, about a 50 percent decrease,in the graph of student visas for Australia,New Zealand had become an important destination for Indian students and has recorded nearly 31 percent increase in grant of visas as compared to the previous years. According to Amar Manchanda,Director of AIMS GLOBAL Education,The recent announcement by the Australian government to increase the financial requirement for visa applicants has made it very difficult for students to show such high funds. Perceived beliefs that opportunities are shrinking and recession has closed the US market for international education. Arunima Dhingra,a licensed Immigration advisor for New Zealand informs that the Long Term Skill Shortage List of Immigration has been amended recently. It provides changes in various IT qualifications for students. The country also welcomes Nurse Graduates with experience, registration in their country. Further UK is planning to introduce compulsory IELTS examination for admissions to its universities and colleges and the number of students taking the IELTS test continues to dip in the state. Manchanda adds,A huge number of students have already gone to UK in 2009 and students heading for New Zealand and Canada have also shot up.
