The team probing the death of four factory workers at Behra village near Derabassi has alleged the factory management is not co-operating with them. The management also did not provide the records to the probe team which is delaying the investigation.
Sources in the district administration told The Indian Express that the management of the Federal Agro Meat Plant did not provide any record pertaining to the purchase of various pieces of safety equipment. The probe so far also found that there were no safety measures at the time of the incident on April 21.
“We asked them to provide the details of the purchase of equipment used by the workers. We also asked then to show the audit report of the bills. They kept telling us that they bought the safety equipment but on paper they could not prove it,” an officer said, requesting anonymity.
The officer added that the probe team visited the factory many times but the people present on behalf of the management could not explain the standard operating procedure (SOP) undertaken for the safety of the workers.
Four workers who were hired for cleaning a sewerage pit inside the factory died on April 21. The cause of the death was said to be asphyxiation. The Derabassi police booked the management of the factory but they were not arrested yet.
Derabassi Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Himanshu Gupta said that the inquiry was going on and they would submit the report by next week.
