Chandigarh: DAV College,Sector 10,Chandigarh,claimed the Panjab University Inter College hockey championship after a gap of 32 years. In the last league match played in Bhaini Sahib against GHG Khalsa College,Gursar Sadhar,the Chandigarh lads registered an easy 3-1 victory to remain undefeated. Earlier,they had thrashed SCD Government College,Ludhiana,11-0,in a lop-sided encounter. In the third league match,the DAV players outplayed Malwa College,Bondi,Samrala,5-1.
PCA to conduct trials in Chandigarh today
Mohali: Punjab Cricket Association will conduct open trials to select players for the PCA Non Residential Academies for filling in the vacant slots for the session 2013-14 . Players should be between 12-14 years of age as on September 1,2013 to be eligible for the trials. Those who are already undergoing training in the centres and will be under 14 years of age as on September 1,2013 will be retained. The total strength of the non residential academies will be 16 players each including the retained players. For Chandigarh,trials will be held at Guru Nanak Public School,Sector 36 at 10.00 am on March 20. The trials for Mohali district will be conducted at Ground ‘C,PCA Stadium at 10.00 am on March 21 while trials for Patiala district will be held at Dhrive Pandove Cricket Stadium at 10.00 am on March 22. For Amritsar district,the trials will be held at Gandhi Grounds at 10.00 am on March 24 while trials for Jalandhar district will be held at Burlton Park Stadium at 10.00 am on March 25. The trials will be held in Ludhiana at Arya College at 10.00 am on March 24.
Junior Nationals wrestling C’ship in May
Chandigarh: As many as 800 wrestlers will be seen in action during the 32nd Junior boys (Freestyle and Greco-Roman) and 15th Female (Freestyle) junior wrestling championships to be held at Sector 10 Rink Hall from May 9 to 12. According to Darshan Lal,general secretary of Chandigarh UT Wrestling Association,more than 800 wrestlers,including girls,from 25 states and Union Territories will compete in the two junior nationals. Meanwhile,the Chandigarh State Junior Wrestling Championship will be hosted on April 11 and 12. The first two position holders in each category will attend a coaching camp. The Chandigarh team will also be selected during the state coaching camp.
