Court gives nod for graft accused to go abroad

A special CBI court on Friday granted permission to Devender Singh,who was arrested on corruption charges last year,to visit Georgia for business purposes between September 15 and 22.

A special CBI court on Friday granted permission to Devender Singh,who was arrested on corruption charges last year,to visit Georgia for business purposes between September 15 and 22. Special CBI judge Vimal Kumar,however,directed Singh to make a security deposit of Rs 2 lakh in addition to a fixed deposit receipt (FDR) of Rs 2 lakh. Singh,who was working as a realtor was arrested along with Punjab’s Chief Parliamentary Secretary and BJP legislator Raj Khurana by the CBI in May 2011.

The accused had been arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 crore from the general secretary of the Punjab Automobile Mechanics Association Manpreet Singh for getting a land deal case settled in Manpreet’s favour.

The accused had been booked by the CBI under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case will come up for resumed hearing on September 29.
