A dry cleaning company promising world class laundry,evidently,did not live up to its name as it was directed by the UT Consumer Forum to pay a compensation of Rs 2,000 on Thursday for causing mental agony and harassment to a client whose clothes were returned unclean.
The complainant Jaswinder Kaur Rana,a resident of Sector 20,had given two salwar kameez,two kameez dupatta and one salwar to White Tiger,World Class Laundry and Dry cleaning company in Chandigarhs Sector 20 in March. She alleged that when she collected her clothes,the following month,the clothes still had stains,a dupatta was damaged and the otherwise new clothes appeared faded. She approached the shop the same day who kept the clothes for reprocessing,assuring to remove the defects.
When she went again after ten days,however,the defects were still present.
Additionally,the company has been slapped with Rs 1,500 as litigation costs.
Sector 37 Financier penalised for unfair trade practices
In another case,Sunil Financiers in Sector 37,Chandigarh has been directed to refund the excess amount of Rs 17,070 to a complainant whom they overcharged against a personal loan. The complainant,Gurvinder Singh,a resident of Zirakpur,took a personal loan for Rs 20,000 in the month of May in 2010 which was to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments of Rs 2,370 each. He alleged that he paid a regular Equated Monthly Instalment (EMIs) of Rs 2500 each till November 2011,after which,he and his guarantor were threatened by the company to hold back the next EMI.
As a resultant,he ended up paying more money which was inclusive of the instalments,late payment charges and visiting charges.
On ground of gross deficiency in service and indulging in unfair trade practice,the company has been directed to pay a compensation of Rs 10,000 along with litigation cost of Rs 5,000.
