Cong activists protest against govt in Batala,block traffic

Alleging non-payment of dues running in crores to farmers,Congress activists in Batala and the farmers’ wing of the party,led by former Congress MLA Ashwani Sekhri,today blocked the traffic on Batala-Pathankot Road for over two hours.

The protesters alleged that the SAD-BJP government was indifferent towards the demands of the farmers. Traffic remained suspended as the protesters shouted anti-government slogans. They charged the government with deliberately withholding balance payments amounting to more than Rs 100 crores to paddy farmers. Later,they also held a demonstration outside the sugar mill at Batala.

The protesters urged the government to release the pending amount soon,failing which they threatened to intensify the struggle.
