In an alleged ‘security breach’ incident in Chandigarh, the convoys of Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini were forced to wait on the road for over 15 minutes on Wednesday night. The reason? A gate on the road leading to Punjab Bhawan and Haryana Niwas complexes was found locked.
Both Khattar and Saini were on their way to Haryana Niwas in Sector 3, Chandigarh, after attending a wedding function.
“On Wednesday night at around 11 pm, we had to remain parked for 15 minutes in Chandigarh. We were going from [Haryana] chief minister’s residence towards Haryana Niwas. The gate on the road in front of Punjab Bhawan was found locked. This is the same road that further leads to the Haryana Niwas building located next to Punjab Bhawan,” Saini told the media on Friday.
“The gate should not have been closed. I was informed that there was some issue in Punjab Bhawan. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had given directions to deploy guards there. The road should not have been closed because, at any time of the day or night, any VVIP may also come there,” Saini added.
It was only after the chief minister’s security went inside Punjab Bhawan and called the guard on duty that the gate was opened and the cavalcade passed through.
The Chandigarh Police and Haryana’s intelligence agencies are separately probing the reasons for this alleged ‘security breach’.
