The Chandigarh Police on Wednesday intensified its crackdown on illegal immigration firms in the city, booking at least 14 such firms across the city for operating without proper permit/permission.

As per the police, the firms that were booked on Wednesday were found to be in violation of government instructions that required them to obtain permits from the local administration and to register their credentials with the local police.

As per details, as many as 29 people — including the owners and managers of the 14 firms — were arrested during Wednesday’s crackdown and later released on bail. All the arrested accused were booked under Section 188 (violating government instructions) of the IPC. The crackdown was launched on the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police (UT), Kanwardeep Kaur.

A police officer identified the 14 firms that faced action on Wednesday as GS Oakridge Visa Service in Sector 17, Carrier Venture Education Consultancy in Sector 17, White Hill Overseas Immigration in Sector 17, Chicago Immigration Company in Sector 22, Red Star Immigration Company in Sector 22, Madhya Global Avenue Immigration Company in Sector 22, Federal Visa Company in Sector 34, Abroad Navigation in Sector 34, Veracity Overseas in Sector 34, Asfm Consultancy in Phase-1, Industrial Area, Travel and Tips in Phase-1, Industrial Area, and two other firms in Sector 35C.

A police officer said, “More than three dozen complaints about immigration frauds had been received in at least two police stations — Sector 34 and Sector 17 — in the past one month against the 14 firms against whom action was taken on Wednesday. The three dozen complaints received involved more than 80 complainants. Some of these complainants had even recently visited SSP Kanwardeep Kaur at her office in Sector 9., following which orders were issued to verify the credentials of these firms and to figure out if they were registered with the UT administration or not. Legal action was taken on Wednesday after thorough scrutiny.” The FiRs were registered at Sector 34, Sector 17, Sector 36 and Industrial Area police stations.
