Chandigarh: Electricity to be cheaper, for 3 months

The benefit will be extended to all consumers except those under agriculture category from November 1 to January 31.

Eletricity is set to get cheaper for the next three months. The electricity department has approved a rebate on the existing tariff from 16 paisa per unit up to 39 paisa per unit under different slabs and categories.

The rebate is after computing fuel and power purchase cost adjustment (FPPCA). FPPCA is the difference of per unit actual cost of power purchase and per unit approved cost of power purchase.

The benefit will be extended to all consumers except those under agriculture category from November 1 to January 31.

In the domestic category, rebate of 16 paisa per unit will be given in the slab of 0-150 units while in the slab of 151-400 units, rebate of 27 paisa per unit will be given. In the slab above 400, department has decided to give benefit of 28 paisa per unit to the consumers.

In the commercial category, rebate of 31 paisa, 39 paisa and 33 paisa will be extended to consumers using 0-150 units, 151-400 and above 400 units, respectively.

Consumers having large supply connections will be given flat rebate of 33 paisa per unit. Those using small power and medium supply connections will get benefit of 33 paisa and 28 paisa per unit. In the public lighting category, rebate of 28 paisa per unit will be given.

The electricity department caters to a total of 2.12 lakh consumers of which 1.75 lakh are in the domestic category. Of total, there is regular billing of around 94% of consumers.

UT superintending engineer MP Singh said the rebate was approved on November 4 and JERC has been informed about it.

The department has also intimated National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT). NIELIT generates bills for the department and maintains all the records.
