Chandigarh shivers at 4.7°C, IMD issues yellow alert for cold wave until December 15

In Punjab, the lowest temperature recorded was 3 degrees Celsius in Faridkot, while Hisar in Haryana recorded a temperature of 1.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state.

Chandigarh recorded this season’s coldest night with temperature plummeting to 4.7 degrees Celsius on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The minimum temperature saw a departure of 4.7 degrees below the normal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for cold wave in Chandigarh until December 15. A cold wave condition occurs when the minimum temperature falls below 10 degrees and is between 4.5 degrees and 6.4 degrees below the normal. According to the IMD, the persisting cold wave that has hit the region will cause a further dip in temperature in the next two to three days.

Daytime temperatures in Chandigarh have also decreased. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was 23.1 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees below normal.

In Punjab, the lowest temperature recorded was 3 degrees Celsius in Faridkot, while Hisar in Haryana recorder a temperature of 1.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state.
