C B Ojha, who handles the charge of Chief Engineer of the Chandigarh Administration, will now be heading the Municipal Corporation’s (MC’s) engineering wing as well.

When contacted, MC Commissioner Amit Kumar confirmed the development to The Indian Express.

Ojha told this correspondent: “I am just getting phone calls from the press about me being given the charge. I may receive official orders by tomorrow. Whatever the administration will decide, I will abide by it”.

Last Friday evening, Chandigarh MC Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora was removed from the post following a direction issued by Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. Mayor Harpreet Babla had confirmed Arora’s removal and said that the exact reason was still not known.

The Chandigarh Congress alleged that Arora was removed from his post as he was “not acting as a puppet in the hands of the BJP”, while the BJP defended the move, saying “all public works have been stuck due to his presence”.

BJP councillors, also, had said that “most works were not seeing the light of day and the Administrator was apprised of certain irregularities in tenders”.

“The Administrator UT Chandigarh, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 71(1) of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act as extended to UT of Chandigarh, is pleased to repatriate Sanjay Arora, Chief Engineer, MCC to his parent Department i.e., Engineering Department, Chandigarh Administration,” the order by the administration had stated.
