Bullet that hit woman prisoner was strayed from Air Force station exercise: Police

SP Randhawa said a comprehensive inquiry was conducted into the incident with the help of experts and was found that the bullet which hit the woman prisoner was fired from AK47 rifle during the firing exercise by the Air Force.

A BULLET which hit a woman prisoner inside Ambala Central Jail had strayed from the firing exercise at Air Force Station situated around 2.05 km from the jail on January 18, Superintendent of Police (Ambala), Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said on Wednesday.

He said the investigation into the incident revealed that the bullet that hit the woman prisoner was fired from an AK-47. Firing practice of Air Force personnel was on at the Air Force station, Ambala. The incident had forced the district police to constitute a special team supervised by SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa to probe the matter.

The bullet had hit the victim crossing 20-ft safety wall. SP Randhawa said a comprehensive inquiry was conducted into the incident with the help of experts and was found that the bullet which hit the woman prisoner was fired from AK47 rifle during the firing exercise by the Air Force. The bullet covered about 2.5 km from the Air Force station and hit the jail premises. During the exercise, 4,180 rounds were fired and one of the bullets hit the prisoner.
