Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Monday increased the honorarium and allowances for presidents and councillors of all the municipal councils in the state with effect from October 1,2011. BJP Minister Tikshan Sud made the announcement for employees of his Local Bodies Department. Sud said the telephone allowance has also been increased from Rs 500 per month to Rs 1000 per month. He said that the presidents of Municipal Councils would get telephone allowance separately.

Pay scale of teaching staff enhanced

Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Monday announced that the pay scales of teaching staff will be substantially enhanced. The pay scales of JBT,ETT and Head Teachers have been revised from October 1,2011. Those Teachers who were earlier in the pay band of Rs 5910 and RS 20,200 with grade pay of 3,000 and initial pay of 11,470,have been put in the pay band of Rs 10,300 to Rs 34,800 with a grade pay of Rs 4,200 with initial pay of Rs 16,290.

Punjabi prof selected for Biotech award

Patiala: Dr Jagbir Singh,a professor in Punjabi University’s Zoology department ,has been selected for the prestigious Biotech International Award 2011 by National Academy of Vectors and Vector Borne Diseases for his outstanding contribution in the field of vector-borne diseases. A press release said here today,adding that he would receive the award during the 11th international symposium on Vectors and Vector-borne diseases to be held at Jabalpur from October 15 to 17 next. The award carries a citation,gold medal and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.

13.98 lakh tonne paddy procured

Chandigarh: Government agencies and private millers procured more than 13 lakh tonnes of Paddy by Sunday evening against some 19 lakh tonnes procurement in the same period last year. Government agencies procured 12.74 lakh tonnes of paddy (91.1 per cent) till date whereas private traders procured some 1.2 lakh tonnes (8.9 pc) of paddy. As of October 9,Pungrain had procured some 3 lakh tonne whereas Markfed procured 1. 7 lakh tonnes,Punsup procured 3.1 lakh tonnes ,and PSWC 1.5 lakh tonnes.

Khalsa College library to go digital

Chandigarh: THE 81-year-old Sikh Museum and Reference Library of Khalsa College,Amritsar,is all set for digitisation.The museum that boasts of rare books and manuscripts belonging to the times of Sikh Guru and Sikh Wars,will begin the digitisation project that is expected to cost lakhs of rupees.
