JALANDHAR: The Dal Khalsa fired a salvo against state Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh for “favouring the memorial of police personnel and some infamous Congress persons”,who died during the heydays of militancy in Punjab. Reacting to the proposal to build a peace memorial,party’s political secretary Kanwar Pal Singh said,“If Amarinder wants to build a memorial,he will have to take support from the Congress-led UPA.” Terming it fallacious,he slammed Captain’s argument that setting up of a memorial of Operation Bluestar within the precincts of Darbar Sahib will defile its sanctity. Kanwar Pal said the memorial will be a step towards recognising those who were killed at Darbar Sahib in Operation BlueStar.

Deny entry to Gill,Tytler: Sikh bodies
to British govt

JALANDHAR: Various Sikh organisation,on Wednesday,submitted a memorandum to the British government urging it to deny entry to Congress MP Jagdish Tytler and former Punjab DGP KPS Gill,who are set to participate in the coming Olympics. Accusing Gill and Tytler of being responsible for “genocidal attacks and extra judicial killings of Sikhs between 1984-98”,the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) and Sikhs for Justice want the UK government to deny the duo entry,like it did with the head of Syria’s National Olympic Committee.

Man killed in land dispute fight

BATALA: A person was killed in a land dispute fight at Misharpura village under Ranger Nangal police station here in Punjab on Wednesday,police said. Balkar Singh,a resident of Dhandoi village,had lodged a compliant with police that his father Bua Singh had gone to Misharpura village to work out a compromise between his brothers-in-law Ram Singh and Tarlok Singh (both brothers) over a land dispute. However,Bua Singh was beaten up badly and was admitted to the civil hospital here where he succumbed to his injuries. Investigations are on.
