Punjabs poll turf war is going virtual. Amid the game of political mergers and acquisitions, action among fans is happening on social networking sites. Soon after closes aides of Peoples Party of Punjab president Manpreet Badal joined the Congress, their Facebook accounts were bombarded with hate mails – calling them traitors to showering expletives on them.
The unfriendly comments from friends on their Facebook profile has forced former MLAs Jagbir Brar and Kushaldeep Dhillon to disable their accounts.
They could not handle the flak they were receiving from their fans, Manpreet said.
Comedian and satirist Bhagwant Mann, whom Brar and Dhillon have accused of collecting and misusing NRI funds,on the contrary, said his Facebook following has jumped by more than 1,000 more fans in a single day.
As a proof of his popularity,Bhagwant Mann claimed that all his three FB accounts have exceeded the limit of 5,000 friends each. The accounts of Dhillon and Brar have gone missing from Facebook while the number of my followers have crossed 15,000 and Manpreets 28,000, Mann said.
Kushaldeep Dhillon, meanwhile, alleged that Manpreets brother-in-law Jojo Johal, and his fake accounts, was behind the hate campaign.
Jojo has been sending derogatory posts on Facebook. Three-four other boys are doing the same from fake accounts. I didnt want to get into mud-slinging,so I asked my wife to temporarily disble the accounts. Jagbir Brar too was getting similar hate mails so he has done the same thing, Dhillon, who has a facebook profile with 5,000 friends and a page with 1,500 followers, said.
He said even Manpreets teenager son Arjun Badal has sent him a text message saying,Well done! Is the money worth it? He is a kid. I did try to reason it out with some of those who posted unfavourable remarks on Facebook. But their language was far too derogatory, Kushaldeep said.
