The mysterious death of Chilean national Satya Amrit Singh (27),a Sikh convert,at the local Miri Piri Academy on Wednesday sent ripples around the city.

Singh,a hostelite, was found in the bathroom which was locked from the inside.

He had joined the institute in August, known for housing foreign nationals pursuing spiritual education,as one of the caretakers.

Academy’s director Kirandeep Kaur refused to comment and said that the matter is being probed. The police authorities, meanwhile, took the body in their possession and the postmortem report is awaited.

“We will be probing the death. The post-mortem will reveal the real cause of death,” said a police officer conducting the investigation.

Sources at the Academy say that a window was found broken, possibly to gain entry into the bathroom, where Singh’s half-naked body was found.
