MLAs Kulwant Singh (Mohali) and Kuljit Singh Randhawa (Dera Bassi) Sunday endorsed Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s stand against the BJP-led Central government, accusing it of conspiring to snatch away free ration benefits from 55 lakh needy people of Punjab under the pretext of e-KYC and other conditions.
Addressing the media at MLA Kulwant Singh’s office in Mohali, both leaders said the poor of Punjab who have made India self-reliant in food production “will never be allowed to face such injustice”. Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board chairman Dr Sunny Singh Ahluwalia and district AAP president Prabhjot Kaur were also present.
Kulwant Singh pointed out that the Centre had already deprived 23 lakh beneficiaries of ration in July, and from September 30, another 32 lakh face the same fate. “This means bread is being snatched from the plates of one out of every three families in Punjab. The BJP’s anti-people mindset will never succeed here,” he said. He demanded a six-month extension for e-KYC verification so that all 55 lakh beneficiaries continue receiving their entitlement.
MLA Randhawa said Punjab has always sacrificed for the nation from Independence to defending borders and filling food reserves. “Of 1.53 crore ration beneficiaries, 1.29 crore have already completed e-KYC. The Centre must give more time instead of punishing Punjabis for political reasons,” he asserted.
Both MLAs condemned BJP’s alleged “vote manipulation, illegal data collection, and now ration theft”, reiterating that the Mann government will safeguard every needy household.
