As part of efforts to improve security at the Bhakra Nangal dam,more security personnel will be deployed at the site and the state will approach the Union Home Ministry for a one time grant to install sophisticated security equipments at this vital Hydro Electric Project.
The decisions were taken after Punjab Chief Secretary SC Agrawal today reviewed security arrangements at the project and its connected installations. Various stakeholders like the Bhakra Beas Management Board,Himachal Pradesh and the central and state security agencies also participated and discussed threat perceptions to the dam.
It was also decided in the meeting to explore the possibility of a single command for the entire security apparatus. Security equipments including explosive detectors,sensors,CCTV cameras and underwater cameras will be procured for which the Union Home Ministry will be approached for a grant.
To improve coordination,frequent meetings between the DCs and SSPs of the connected districts of Una and Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh,Ropar in Punjab and the Beas Management Board will be held. The various stakeholders have decided to strengthen the barriers on all approach roads including from Naina Devi,Kosri Camp,Gwalthai and Barmala and replace the manual barriers with electronic ones and provide elevated platforms for the proper checking of vehicles.
Vulnerable areas will be fenced and certain areas will be designated as no-fishing zones.
