The family of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar will hold his last rites Wednesday, even as they continue to await justice, said Resham Singh Kahlon, a member of the 31-member committee formed to seek justice in the case.

Speaking on behalf of Y Puran Kumar’s wife and IAS officer Amneet P Kumar and her family outside their Sector 24 residence, Kahlon confirmed that the cremation will take place at the Sector 25 cremation ground at 4 pm.

“I want to tell the whole nation that justice has not been delivered in this matter… Neither the Government of Haryana nor the Central Government has been able to deliver justice to the family of Y Puran Kumar. The then Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and the then SP of Rohtak have still not been arrested,” Kahlon said.

Kahlon also appealed to people in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to gather at the cremation ground to pay their last respects to the late IPS officer.

When asked how the family agreed to the post-mortem examination despite claiming injustice, Kahlon said, “The government has failed to resolve the issue and arrest the accused. More than a week has passed since the incident, and the condition of the body had been deteriorating. Looking at the prevailing circumstances, the post-mortem had to be done.”

He also said that despite continuous protests and public outcry, the Centre, Haryana Government, and Chandigarh Administration have “failed” to act in the matter. “The government machinery should have ensured justice, but nothing concrete has been done,” he added.

He added that the committee has decided to cancel the protest that was scheduled for Wednesday evening at Sector 17, Chandigarh. The committee was formed by the family of the late IPS officer.

The family of Haryana cadre IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide last week at his residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh, had earlier refused consent for post-mortem until their demands were met.

However, the family eventually gave their consent, and the post-mortem examination was conducted Wednesday at PGIMER, Chandigarh, by a board of doctors in the presence of a magistrate.
