Arvind Kejriwal in Chandigarh: AAP’s civic poll success sent ‘strong message’, will return after wining Punjab

Arvind Kejriwal made the newly elected councillors take an oath that they would "never take any bribe" and also not "let anyone do anything wrong". He promised to take Chandigarh to number 1 from 66 in the Swachh Survekshan cleanliness rankings.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo, Arvind Kejriwal, on Thursday, arrived in Chandigarh to hold a victory march to commemorate his party’s splendid performance during the recently concluded Chandigarh civic body polls and said that the win in Chandigarh “has sent a strong message across Punjab and started an AAP wave across the state.”

Kejriwal on Thursday joined a victory march with his party’s victorious councillors and made them take an oath that “they will never take any bribe and will also not let anyone do anything wrong.” He said that now that they have won, “they [the new councillors] should move beyond party lines and work together” to bring Chandigarh back to number 1 during the Swacch Survekshan.

“Chandigarh ke nateejon ke baad Punjab mein ek lehar si daud gayi hai… Chandigarh mein ab shapath grehan karne aayenge Punjab jeet ke (The victory in Chandigarh has started an AAP wave. We will again return to Chandigarh after winning the Punjab elections),” Kejriwal said during the victory march (Vijay Yatra) that started from Aroma Chowk in Sector 22 and ended in Sector 23.

Addressing a gathering at the end of Thursday’s victory march, Kejriwal said, “You people of Chandigarh have achieved an amazing feat. This is nothing short of a miracle. Ever since we won in Chandigarh, people across the country believe that yes, it can be done. They have realised that even the oldest parties sitting at a place for more than 100 years can be defeated.”

The AAP chief stated that they won’t let the trust and faith the people had entrusted in them break.
“The way after looking at our Delhi model, you people have given us an opportunity and voted for us here in Chandigarh, it is appreciable. And now we will work to such an extent in Chandigarh that after looking at Chandigarh’s example, people in other parts of the country will vote for the AAP,” he said.
He also told the councillors during his address that now they should forget about party lines and just work for the development of the city.

“There is politics during the time of elections. Now that politics is over. Now, the councillors who won from the BJP, and the councillors who won from the Congress they are all ours. We have to move beyond party lines and work so hard that the voters who voted for Opposition parties this time around, vote for us in the next elections,” he stated.

He added that in the name of the development of the city and for providing facilities to the people here, there should not be any kind of partiality with the councillors of other parties or their supporters.

Kejriwal said that the way Delhi’s work has been carried out, now they have to replicate that and make Chandigarh “City Beautiful” again. “We have to make Chandigarh ‘City Beautiful’ again. The roads, schools, hospitals everything has to be improved. For the first time in history fourteen councillors of a party will be administered oaths in front of you all,” he stated.

He added that the oath paper will be signed by them and distributed to all residents of their ward.
Later, AAP leader from Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, took the stage and stated that the people of Chandigarh have created history.

“The people of Chandigarh have written history that elections can’t be won through hatred or caste-based politics. They are won on merit. The way our common men have defeated the big leaders of BJP in Chandigarh, it says a lot. To bring Chandigarh back on number 1 from the 66th place in cleanliness is our first priority,” Mann stated.

Mann added that the AAP volunteers, party workers were the real kingmakers.
“And kingmakers are always bigger than the king himself,” he said.
