Chandigarh:On account of holidays on April 13 and 14,for Baisakhi and Dr Ambedkar Jayanti,the OPD services will remain closed on Friday at the Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32. However,emergency services shall function as usual. On April 14 both OPDs and emergency services shall function as usual. At PGIMER,both OPD and Emergency services will function as usual on both days. At Government Multi Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,emergency services will function on both days,but OPD services will remain closed on both days.

24-year-old tiger dies in Chhatbir

Chhatbir:The Chhatbir Zoo lost its oldest royal Bengal male tiger on Thursday. After surviving for more than 24 years in captivity,a zoo official claimed it to be the oldest tiger in the country. The tiger has been named Sanjay. “Sanjay was kept away from public viewing for the past one year because of ill health. Born in 1988 in zoo premises,it was given extra care by veterinarians and curators,” Informs Field Director Basanta Raj Kumar.

Students on hunger strike taken to hospital

Chandigarh:Three students at Panjab University (PU),who have been sitting on a hunger strike for the past four days were taken to the Government Multi-speciality hospital Sector 16,on Thursday,by the police. All three students are representatives of Hindustan Students’ Association (HSA). They are demanding immediate recruitment of 380 teachers in various departments of the University,against Panjab University Teachers’ Association’s (PUTA) demand for need-based appointments. Another three students from the same student organisation are now sitting outside the PU V-C R C Sobti’s office.
