Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Friday “advised” the protesting wrestlers to “come out of the clutches of the Opposition leaders” and said that they “should not get sacrificed for their [Opposition’s] political interests”.
“Somewhere there is a mahapanchayat or somewhere a dharna… but players should come out of the clutches of these Opposition people very soon. They have the right to take part in the agitation, but players should not get sacrificed for their [Opposition’s] political interests,” Vij said during an interaction with media persons.
“The government is also listening to the players. They [players] had demanded to form a committee, register an FIR, that has been done. These players are our national heroes but the matter has got a little spoiled because they have got caught in the clutches of Opposition leaders,” Vij added.
The wrestlers have been protesting, demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, alleging sexual harassment and exploitation.
Vij had earlier come out in support of the wrestlers and said that he was ready to take their voice to the highest level if required.
