The Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalya,Rajyoga Bhawan,Sector 33 A,organised a lecture on Conquering Anger and Defeating Depression by Professor Onkar Chand,Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering,Institute of Engineering and Technology,Bhaddal,on Sunday. Brahma Kumar Amirchand,vice-chairperson of the social service wing, also shared his views on the subject.
Attaining victory over anger is a great boon. It brings relief from fatigue, tiredness, and self-created burden. An attitude of mercy is a good antidote to anger. The practice to let go of others shortcomings, forgiving them of their errors, sympathising with their constraints, understanding that they must be fighting a harder battle themselves helps us to feel mercy, said Chand.
Speaking on how to defeat depression,he said: To defeat depression we all have to learn to manage our moods and deal with difficult emotions. Depression has symptoms like hopelessness, losing interest in things one used to enjoy, feeling guilty, helpless or worthless, thinking about death or suicide, sleeping too much or having problems of sleeping, feeling restless, irritated and easily annoyed. Giving examples,Chand explained about the harmful effects of anger. When a person is angry, his nerves tense and the blood gushes to the brain. His heartbeat, pulse rate and blood pressure shoot up and brain cells are permanently damaged. He feels the power of several persons all at once like a madman. Anger also clouds judgment, causes emotional imbalances, promotes negativity and kills creativity, he said.
Speaking on the common causes of anger,he enumerated unfulfilled desires and expectations,a tendency to prove their supremacy, jealousy, insecurity and discontentment as the causes.
