Paying rich tributes to Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah termed the former Punjab chief minister as the “bhaichare ka sardar” for fostering brotherhood and dedicating his life to Hindu-Sikh unity, even as the Akal Takht Jathedar flagged the issue of federalism and said a narrative is created against the Punjabis when they raise the issue of more rights for the states.
“If we talk about rights for states, we are termed as separatists, and terrorists and a narrative is created against us. Badal saab had said there shouldn’t be any central interference in states as it will make the country weak. Regional parties can safeguard the interests of the states,” said Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh.

Irrespective of our political differences, he gave me advice that was helpful in my political journey. Shah also said that SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal has told him that Badal had got a temple, a mosque and a gurdwara built in the Badal village.
Referring to Badal’s imprisonment during his long career, Shah said Badal fought for principles and ‘panth’. The Union minister urged people to take inspiration from Badal’s life and follow the path shown by him.
