Heroin case: Dismissed cop Amandeep Kaur’s popularity rises on Instagram amid probe into her background, links

Edited with filters, the reels disguise her real age. Kaur, meanwhile, follows only 40 other profiles on Instagram, mostly of celebrities, including rape-murder convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim. When Kaur’s reels went viral, the state police were quick to suspend her.

Humble background, connection with IPS officer

Amandeep Kaur hails from a poor Dalit family in Bathinda’s Chack Fathe Singh Wala village. While her Instagram profile seems to depict a luxurious existence, it does not reflect in her family’s lifestyle.

Kaur’s father is a mason and her brother works in a private firm. She has a sister who is married. When Kaur got a government job in 2011, her family hoped that it would help them come out of poverty.

The villagers said the family continues to live in the same situation as before even though Kaur’s life appeared to have changed dramatically over the years. She reportedly snapped ties with them long ago.

Known for flaunting high-end Rado and Rolex watches and Gucci sunglasses, Amandeep Kaur reportedly leads a lavish life in Bathinda where she lives in a posh colony. She is also said to own a Thar, a Royal Enfield motorcycle, and a scooter.

Harjeewan Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Canal police station where the case against Kaur was registered, said the investigation into her assets is still underway.

Sources said that at the start of her service, an SHO – who had his share of controversies – dispatched Kaur with a known state-level politician from Muktsar.

Kaur, who is married, got into a dispute with her husband soon after their wedding. Sources said that an IPS officer posted in Bathinda in 2015 threatened her husband once. This is allegedly the same IPS officer whom Kaur wanted to contact when she was arrested on Wednesday. When she was stopped for checking on Wednesday, Kaur is learnt to have showed WhatsApp messages, chats and photographs to flout her close connections with the senior officer.

In 2022, Kaur and an accomplice allegedly attempted to die by suicide in front of the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Bathinda in a bid to avoid arrest in an assault case. The two were reportedly subdued after two hours and arrested upon their refusal to cooperate.

Allegations against Balwinder Singh

Meanwhile, Gurmeet Kaur, the wife of one Balwinder Singh, alleged on social media that he sold drugs along with Amandeep Kaur. “We have not yet made anyone join the investigation in this case,” said the SHO when asked about Balwinder. Sources, however, indicated that the police had named him in the case.

On Friday, Balwinder reached a court in Bathinda where he got into an altercation with his wife, Gurmeet Kaur, in the presence of the media. The latter repeatedly alleged that he had ruined her life.

Balwinder, however, said he had come to file a defamation case against Gurmeet on the guidance of a DSP. “Gurmeet Kaur has been making false claims about me. So a DSP told me to lodge a complaint against her and file a defamation case,” he said.

The police are also examining an iPhone and a Vivo phone which they recovered from Amandeep Kaur at the time of her arrest. “We have been going through the phones to check forward and backward linkages,” the SHO said.
