Advocate Sartej Singh Narula has been elected president of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association (PHHCBA) for the 2025-26 session after securing 1,781 votes.
A total of seven advocates contested for the top position, including former PHHCBA president Vikas Malik, along with Advocates Anil Pal Singh Shergill, Ravinder Singh Randhawa, Chouhan Satvinder Singh Sisodia, Nirbhay Garg, and Dr. Kanu Sharma. Narula won by defeating his closest contender, Ravinder Singh Randhawa, by 377 votes, while Vikas Malik trailed with 816 votes—losing to Narula by a margin of 965 votes.
In the previous 2024-25 session, Vikas Malik had secured the president’s post with 1,536 votes. However, a few months into his tenure, the charge was transferred to the vice president, who acted as president following controversies surrounding Malik.
After his victory, Narula expressed gratitude to Bar members and pledged to enhance the association’s reputation and strengthen Bar-Bench relations. He emphasized the importance of dignity and respect for fellow advocates and promised to create a supportive environment for young lawyers. He also outlined key initiatives, including improving client meeting spaces, addressing parking issues, and expanding the ladies’ bar room. Additionally, he pledged to establish a committee for the prevention of workplace sexual harassment, streamline e-filing processes, and ensure smooth case hearings in the courts.
Other elected office bearers of PHHCBA
Advocate Nilesh Bhardwaj won the vice president’s post with 1,501 votes, defeating Gaurav Gurcharan Singh Rai by 437 votes. In the race for secretary, Advocate Gagandeep Jammu emerged victorious with 1,411 votes, surpassing Manvinder Singh Dalal (962 votes) and Parampreet Singh Bajwa (760 votes).
The joint secretary position was secured by Bhagyashri Setia, who won with 2,053 votes against Dr. Kirandeep Kaur, who received 1,733 votes. Meanwhile, Advocate Harvinder Singh Maan clinched the treasurer’s post by defeating Satnam Singh with a margin of 869 votes.
According to an official from the PHHCBA Election Committee, out of 4,974 total voters, 4,315 cast their votes. The results for the Executive Committee (Below 10 years and Above 10 years) will be announced on Saturday.
Advocate Ashok Chauhan elected DBA Chandigarh president for fifth time
In the District Bar Association (DBA) elections, Advocate Ashok Chauhan secured the position of president for the fifth time, defeating his contender, Sunil Toni.
The vice president’s post was won by Advocate Sandeep Gujjar, while Advocate Amish Sharma secured the secretary’s position by defeating Vivek Mohan Sharma. Advocate Mandeep Singh Kaler was elected treasurer.
As of the filing of this report, official confirmation of the DBA Chandigarh election results was still awaited.
