A key suspect in a Rs 2.34 crore cyber fraud case involving an 80-year-old retired Colonel was arrested, Panchkula police said on Wednesday.
Police identified the accused as Harjot Singh, alias Samar, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab.
Earlier, police had arrested co-accused Govind Singh Randhawa in the same case, who is currently in judicial custody.
The case dates back to September 11, 2024, when retired Colonel Jagwant Singh, a resident of Sector 2, Panchkula, lodged a complaint, stating that he had received a WhatsApp message from a man claiming to be an employee of a stock market company. The fraudster lured him with lucrative profits and, over time, duped him of Rs 2.34 crore, the complainant stated.
Based on his complaint, the Cyber Crime police station in Panchkula registered an FIR.
On August 12, accused Harjot Singh was arrested and produced before the court, where he was remanded to two days of police custody.
Police said that they were interrogating the accused to identify other individuals involved in the crime and uncover the entire fraud network.
Investigations revealed that the accused has prior cyber fraud cases registered against him in Gurugram and Ludhiana, police said.
