* Operator busy shortlisting model for cab
* Fare yet to be notified by the Administration
The proposal of the Chandigarh Administration to run non-AC cabs has failed to take off even after a year into its announcement.
While the operator has not been able to settle on the model of cab,the UT Administration has failed to notify the fares. Except radio autos, there is hardly any option available with the common man.
Speaking to Newsline,Arup Gupta of Harbir Motors, sole operator to ply the non-AC cabs, said,I have decided to run TATA Magic as the cab because that suits me financially. However,I am waiting for its models to get launched after which I will shortlist the best one.
Meanwhile, the administration had fixed the fares at Rs 12 for first kilometre and Rs 9 for every subsequent kilometre but it has failed to notify the fare list to the operator.
As no deadline has been given to the operator to start the service,he is waiting for the new TATA Magic model for the past six months.
Speaking to Newsline,a senior official said,First of all the fare needs to be notified and only after the notification we shall be able to pressurise the operator to start the service. The file is pending with the Home department.
As the proposal remains pending, its the common man who is suffering as doesnt has much options of transportation.
Besides Harbir Motors,it was Atlantic Motors
that had opted to run the service but had later backed out as it didnt find the fare suitable. It took the administration almost one and a half year to pay back his security deposit of Rs 1 lakh.
Also no more operators have come forward to run the service,it just one operator with whom the project has got stuck.
