28-year-old ‘misbehaves’ with woman,arrested near PGI

“The accused also got off the bus and started following her. After the woman asked him to back off,an altercation ensued and he threatened her. The woman then made a PCR call and he was arrested,” the officer said.

A case of outraging the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation was registered against Singh,a resident of Sector 24 and currently unemployed. He would be produced in a local court tomorrow,the officer said.

Continuing with the drive to tackle the menace of sexual harassment and molestation in the city,UT Senior Superintendent of Police Naunihal Singh interacted with students and faculty members of the Dev Samaj College for Women in Sector 45.

Throughout the interaction which lasted an hour-and-a-half,Singh reiterated that the menace could be tackled and eradicated from the city only if the girls acted with courage and spoke out. “Our society is not perfect and there are notorious elements present. Hence,it is important that society unites against them and only then will they be taught a lesson,” he said.

Asked how how to deal with the daily nonsense,the SSP replied,“Dial 100.”

Assuring that police personnel had been issued instructions to take immediate action,he said,“It is important that you inform us about the incident as soon as possible,only then can we apprehend the accused at the earliest and bring them to book.”

However,a first year BA student said,“Just because there was a huge uproar after Komal Kohli was attacked in Sector 42,people are discussing the issue. Quick fixes will not be helpful.”

Another student said,“What does a girl do if she does not have a mobile phone? PCR officers are seen patrolling outside colleges but what about the deserted lanes and areas? A lot more incidents are being reported but the matter will soon lose momentum and we’ll be back to square one.”
