2 men held within hours of snatching; stolen mobile phone, Aadhaar card recovered

Chandigarh Police arrested two men shortly after a snatching in the Industrial Area, recovering a stolen phone, Aadhaar card and the motorcycle used in the crime.

The Chandigarh Police Friday arrested two men within hours of a snatching reported in the Industrial Area, recovering the stolen mobile phone, Aadhaar card and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.

The arrests were made by a team of Industrial Area police station, acting under the direction of SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and SP (City) K M Priyanka, and under the supervision of SDPO (East) Vijay Kumar and SHO Satnam Singh.

According to the police, an FIR was registered on the complaint of Poonam, 23, a resident of Mauli Jagran Part-II, who works as domestic help in Sector 27. In her complaint, she stated that around 10.30 am on Thursday, she was cycling towards work when two persons on a motorcycle allegedly approached her from behind near the Gaushala in Phase I. The pillion rider, the police said, snatched her purse containing a Realme mobile phone, her Aadhaar card and a SIM card, after which the duo fled towards the CTU workshop.

A police team began tracing the suspects and later arrested Mohit Pathak, 33, of Daria and Vikash, 24, of Motihari district in Bihar. The police said the stolen phone, Aadhaar card and the motorcycle (CH-01-AX-5939) were recovered from their possession.

The police said that Section 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was added during the investigation to the FIR, which was initially lodged under sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the BNS at Industrial Area police station. Both accused have been sent to judicial custody.

According to officials, Vikash is a habitual offender and has been previously booked in another case registered under the IPC at Mauli Jagran police station.
