The Cyber Crime Police of Chandigarh has arrested two accused in connection with a fake job-cum-investment fraud of around Rs 9.03 lakh. The accused, identified as Shivam, 21, and Pramod Kumar, 24, both residents of Ludhiana, were nabbed for their alleged involvement in a Telegram-based “work from home” scam.
According to the police, the case was registered on the complaint of Gurvinder Pal Kaur, a resident of Chandigarh, who alleged that she was cheated through an online job offer. The complainant was lured into performing fake online review tasks with promises of high commissions. The fraudsters initially sent small payments to gain her trust and later deceived her into depositing a total of Rs 9,03,011 on the pretext of “unlocking” and “repairing” her frozen account.
During investigation, digital evidence and bank transaction trails revealed that the cheated amount was credited to an Indian Bank account held by Shivam, which was then transferred to UCO Bank accounts belonging to Pramod Kumar.
Further technical analysis revealed that the Telegram accounts used by the accused were operated via IP addresses traced to Cambodia, indicating possible foreign links in the fraud network.
A team from the Cyber Crime Police Station, led by Inspector Eram Rizvi, under the supervision of DSP (Cyber Crime & IT) A Venkatesh and overall guidance of SP (Cyber) Geetanjali Khandelwal, conducted coordinated raids in Ludhiana. Both accused were arrested on October 28, 2025, and produced before the court, which granted one-day police remand for further interrogation.
Police officials said the arrests mark a significant step in curbing the rising trend of cyber frauds in the region. The case also highlights the growing menace of cybercriminals exploiting social media and messaging platforms to trap people with fake “work-from-home” schemes, said the police.
Further investigation is underway to identify other individuals and foreign connections involved in the racket, said the police.
