The inaugural ‘PP Singh National Journalism Award 2023’, will be conferred upon journalist and managing editor of Newslaundry.com Atul Chaurasia.

Named in memory of late Professor Pushpendra Pal Singh, a luminary in the field of journalism, the Pushpendra Pal Singh Smriti Foundation will bestow this award on Chaurasia at an event in Gandhi Bhawan on Oct 8.

Chaurasia is known for his work as a political commentator and anchor, as his incisive reporting and satirical political commentary series, ‘Tippani,’ have garnered a substantial following. His two-decade long career, in print and digital media, saw him play a pivotal role in the founding teams of Tehelka Hindi magazine and CatchNews Hindi website. His contributions have earned him the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism twice.

The selection process of this award was led by a jury chaired by Dr. Vijay Bahadur Singh, an eminent author and renowned critic in Hindi literature, and included senior journalist and scholar Sudhir Jain, academician Prof. Anand Pradhan from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (Delhi), and social worker Sachin Kumar Jain, the director of Vikas Samvad. The award includes an honorary amount of one lakh rupees.

This award ceremony is slated to serve as a tribute to Prof. Pushpendra Pal Singh, affectionately known as PP Sir, who was a legendary media educator. He held key roles such as the head of the journalism department at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, and was the editor of Madhya Pradesh Madhyam’s weekly newspaper ‘Rojgar aur Nirman.’ Prof. Singh passed away on Mar 7, earlier this year.
