The Vadodara city police on Wednesday arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder his estranged wife by attacking her with a knife on the neck. The accused, Bhavesh Magre, was arrested from Dahod railway station, from where he was attempting to escape after the incident on Tuesday.
Magre was booked for attempted murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code. The police said that Magre “suspected” his wife Vidya of infidelity, leading to fights between the couple.
The FIR was lodged at Wadi police station on the basis of a complaint filed by Vidya’s mother Vaishali Bhagat. In her complaint, Bhagat stated that Vidya and Magre had eloped to marry each other three years ago and have a two-year-old son. However, Vidya had returned to her parent’s home about a month ago due to continuous fights with Magre over his suspicion.
According to the FIR, Magre had “dragged away” Vidya on Tuesday while she had stepped out of her house to purchase snacks.
The FIR stated, “My daughters, Vidya and Akshara, had stepped out to buy snacks… I got a call from Bhavesh’s neighbour, informing me that he was assaulting my daughter in his house. I rushed to his house, to where he had dragged her from the market. My daughter had already jumped from the window of his house to escape the attack and was lying in a pool of blood with stab injuries on her neck.”
Police said that Vidya had jumped from the window of the first floor house of the couple after he tried to stab her, causing an injury on her neck. Vidya is currently undergoing treatment at SSG hospital in Vadodara.
On Wednesday, the police tracked Magre to Dahod railway station and arrested him.
