A 23-year-old woman was allegedly strangled by her 27-year-old former live-in partner in Bengaluru on Monday.
The incident came to light on Tuesday when her roommate returned to the apartment.
The victim, identified as Akanksha, a native of Hyderabad, had been working with a private firm in Bengaluru.
The suspect has been identified as Arpit, a native of Delhi, who works with Byju’s, a global ed-tech company.
Jeevan Bheema Nagar police in Bengaluru have registered a case of murder. Arpit is yet to be arrested.
A police source said that Akanksha and Arpit met while working at Byju’s four years ago. Arpit and Akanksha were living together, but the relationship strained later. Although they were no longer living together, Arpit used to visit Akanksha in Bengaluru.
During Arpit’s visit on Monday, an altercation ensued between the duo and he allegedly strangled Akanksha. In an attempt to make it appear as a suicide, Arpit reportedly tried to hang her body from a ceiling fan. Failing in his attempt, he allegedly left the body on the floor, locked the apartment door and fled the scene, police said.
Additional Commissioner of Police (East) M Chandra Sekhar said four police teams were formed to track down Arpit.
