A special court in Bengaluru remanded former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna in 14-day judicial custody in the first of three sexual assault cases against him on Monday. He will be lodged in the Bengaluru Central Prison till June 24.
Earlier on Monday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Karnataka government produced Prajwal Revanna before the special court. The SIT did not seek further custody in the first of the three cases.
The SIT may later seek custody in the second case of sexual assault against the former MP. Prajwal Revanna has sought anticipatory bail in the two other cases and the matter is being heard by a special court.
The SIT had taken custody of Prajwal Revanna for six days soon after his arrival from Germany on May 31. The police remand was extended by four days to June 10. On Saturday, Prajwal Revanna was taken to Hassan district for mahazar (crime scene mapping) by the SIT.
Last Friday, Prajwal Revanna’s mother Bhavani Revanna, accused of kidnapping a woman allegedly sexually assaulted by her son, was granted bail by the Karnataka High Court. Later, she appeared before the investigating officials and was questioned in connection with the case.
The SIT case against bail for Prajwal Revanna’s father and JD(S) MLA H D Revanna in the rape victim kidnapping case has also been adjourned till June 14, while H D Revanna’s petition to cancel the case against him is slated to be heard on June 21.
